How to take your Christmas lunch from indoors to your outdoor alfresco kitchen area.
16th November, 2021
‘Tis the season to make your alfresco area the perfect hub for entertaining friends and family these holidays. Here are some of our favourite tips that will help you make the most out of your outdoor kitchen for a delightful, fun and memorable Christmas lunch.
Set up the space
Before sending out invites for the ultimate alfresco Christmas lunch, make sure that you have enough space in your outdoor area for entertaining your guests. Make sure your outdoor dining table has enough places to seat your guests, and that you maybe even have some comfy couches or lounges set up around the side for more casual socialising before the main course. Set up some shade to keep them and the food out of direct sunlight. Some broad canvas umbrellas will do the trick if you need more covered space.
Put up some decorations
You should definitely lean into the Christmas spirit by decorating your alfresco area. Keep things simple with classic linen tablecloths and small flower arrangements. You could even pop some baubles or tinsel on the table too to jazz it up a little. It might even be a bit of fun to add some Christmas crackers too! Another idea is to string up some fairy lights and lanterns to illuminate the space if the lunch pours over into dinner.
Keep the bugs away
Insects and bugs can make you wish for an indoor lunch instead, but the good news is that there are some simple solutions to deal with this! Have some strategically placed citronella candles on the tables - you could even incorporate insect-repelling herbs like lavender and mint into your arrangements. Keep some insect repellent nearby so that you don’t have to go hunting for it in the house, should you need it.
Stock up your alfresco fridge
Keep your guests easily hydrated and satisfied by stocking your alfresco fridge. Include beer, soft drink, water, some ice, wine and everything you might need for those festive cocktails. The perks of having a fridge as part of your alfresco kitchen is that everything is stocked and ready for you and your guests to access conveniently in the one place.
Plan your menu
There’s absolutely no denying that the most important part of your alfresco Christmas party is the food that you serve. For a menu that’s sure to impress, choose ingredients that are in season and pair them with herbs and spices that will bring out the best flavours. Some simple seafood, some meat, plenty of salads and vegetables and a dessert should set you up perfectly for the day. To reduce the time spent on the grill so you can also enjoy the party, choose some options that you can pre-prepare in advance.
